The Yin and Yang of leadership

One of the amazing leaders in the ‘Wome in Leadership’ facebook group shared this page out of a book on The Tao of Leadership by John Heider.

One of the things that caught my attention was the idea that being open and receptive is feminine energy (Yin).

I have been listening to an audio series recently (Activate by James Wedmore) in which he talked about feminine energy and masculine energy.

Feminine energy (yin) he says "It's about receiving. It's about patience, trust, intuition, knowing."

Masculine energy (yang) is a "very logical, physical action, result-based energy."

To become a great leader you need a mix of both.

Without the masculine energy there's not enough action taking. Sometimes you need to fight as a leader - fight for your team, fight for your vision. And for that you need some masculine energy.

Without the feminine energy there's not enough patience. Sometimes as a leader you need to trust others to do the work, trust your intuition with difficult decisions, or just accept the moment.

So lovely leaders, what do you think your dominant energy is?

Do you think there is room for you to balance it out?
