3 Tips to Move Through Procrastination

I get really frustrated when I find myself procrastinating on things I know I need to get done. We all have them, right?
Right now, for me, it’s replying to a particular email sitting in my inbox. It’s been there for two weeks. Two. Whole. Weeks. I know – seems so simple, right?
I don’t even know what it is about this one, but I’m sure there’s something you’ve been putting off too… and maybe it’s been staring at you for a while. So here’s your gentle nudge (or not-so-gentle sign) to get it done.
To make it easier to move through procrastination, here are my three go-to strategies:
1. Uncover the ‘ickiness’ factor.
Let’s be honest – if there wasn’t something icky about it, you’d have done it already. So what’s underneath the resistance? Fear of not doing it perfectly? Uncertainty about where to start? Or maybe it’s just… boring. Naming the ickiness brings clarity. Once you see what’s really going on, it loses some of its power.
2. Reconnect with your why.
Sometimes even the small stuff feels like climbing Everest. But every task – even the tedious ones – connects to something bigger. Why did you start this journey? How does finishing this one thing move you closer to your vision or the leader you want to be? When you zoom out, even an annoying email becomes part of your bigger story.
3. Connect it with your values.
When you tie a task to what actually matters to you, it changes everything. For example, one of my core values is growth. So, responding to that email I’ve been avoiding? It’s not just ticking a box – it’s a chance to stretch a little, to follow through even when it’s uncomfortable. Every time I do that, I grow.
So, I’ll be applying all three of these to that email. (Right after I finish this post... probably.)
Which one do you think will help the most with whatever you’ve been putting off?
